    Research Office 

    Under the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & International), the Research Office is dedicated to coordinating and supporting research.

    International Office 
    The primary purpose of USP International is to increase the numbers of International students, to generate revenue for the University, and enrich the total student experience through greater student diversity. USP International is responsible for International Marketing and Recruitment; Student Mobility and International Student Support, including orientation. The Office works with institutions and agencies internationally in the areas of student mobility and study abroad programmes.     The Opportunity 
    Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor & President and as a member of the Senior Management Team you will provide support to the Vice-Chancellor & President in implementing the Universitys Strategic Plan and achieving its strategic goals and objectives. The incumbent will provide leadership and oversight for the implementation and achievement of the Universitys Research and International strategic goals. This will include implementing the Universitys Research Policy and USPs Research Plan and leading the design and implementation of the multi-year major Strategic Research Themes. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & International) is expected to continue the Universitys efforts to create a vibrant research culture and strong internationalisation to deliver the USP Strategic Plan goals for research, graduate affairs and innovation. The incumbent will drive the Universitys efforts to improve the quality and equity of research and international students support services it offers students. 

    The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & International) as the leader of the Research and International Office is responsible for the activities and performance of its team, including the delivery of planned outputs and the overall performance outcomes. An essential part of the role will be to ensure the sound management, allocation of resources and timely and successful completion of all research, graduate and consultancy activities undertaken by the different USP Faculties, including PACE-SD, campuses and research clusters both internally and externally. This involves procuring strategic research funding; developing and promoting regional and international research partnerships; and supporting Faculties, Schools and Research clusters. 

    In the area of internationalisation, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & International) is responsible for directing and effectively implementing strategies for increasing the number of international students studying at the University including its regional campuses; overseeing the operations of the Universitys International Students Office; and liaising with partner institutions for the purpose of exchange (of staff and students), collaboration in research and teaching, and other initiatives of mutual interest. The DVC (R&I) will lead the implementation of International plans to facilitate the large scale awareness campaign and internationalization initiatives that align the Faculty, sectional and campuses plans to the University Research Plan and International Student Recruitment Plan, to better enable the University to achieve its strategic goals and objectives for research, graduate studies, internationalization, consultancy and innovation.
      The Person We Seek 

      Educational Qualification 
      • Applicants must have a PhD and have already achieved the rank of Professor;
      • Senior academic with a strong research reputation and a record of sound leadership.
      Experience 
      Demonstrated success at senior academic level, preferably as Head of School, Dean or Pro Vice-Chancellor/Deputy Vice-Chancellor
      • Extensive experience in research, planning and achievement of successful outcomes;
      • Committed to promoting collaborative interdisciplinary research;
      Skills 
      • Demonstrated commitment to and ability to advance sustained research outcomes across its many dimensions
      • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
      • Highly innovative and creative
      • Continuously looks for and fosters innovative strategies to advance institutional plans at the University and within the larger community.
      • Outstanding personal integrity, high ethical standards and a reputation for fair and equitable treatment of others;

      Remuneration 
      The position is available for a term of five years and may be renewed by mutual agreement (subject to successful performance outcomes). 
      The University will provide a competitive remuneration package to the successful applicant, including: 
      • Contributions of 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme
      • 25 days of annual leave
      • Airfare and relocation costs where appropriate
      • Educational opportunities for the appointees family to study at the University of the South Pacific at a substantial discount.
      • Vehicle for official and private use.
      Gross Salary: F$188,931 to F$288,315 per annum
