- Responsibilities:
Reports directly to Regional Materials Manager at Regional level, and the Project QC Manager in case he is assigned temporarily to a particular Project.
Assist, advise, and, support the Project Manager and/or the Project QC Manager in the provision of the following to cater for project needs:
- Review of Project technical specifications, test codes and standards, drawings, and BOQ to identify and determine quality and engineering criteria for civil materials, workmanship and testing requirements.
- Assessing that proposed project civil materials are in line with the specific project requirements, including,
Proposal of alternative suitable civil materials and appropriate tests
Selection of the most appropriate combination of materials for specific purposes taking into consideration the cost implication.
- Assist in the preparation of quality documentation, including the Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and in the review of construction documents for compliance with project quality requirements related to civil materials.
Assist Regional Projects as follow:
- Liaises and coordinates with 3rd Party Testing /Inspection Company as required related to civil materials.
- Ensures that any measurement & testing instrument to be used related to civil materials, that there are functional and calibrated.
- Analyzes and evaluates data or test results (incl. destructive and non-destructive tests), to assess and advice their performance, usage and suitability.
- Prepares, files, maintains and retrieves test/inspection records and any other quality record generated by his activities related to civil materials.
- Follow up the implementation of Method Statements, and, Inspection & Test Plans related to civil materials, and ensures all necessary quality records are generated in a timely manner for all civil materials.
Performs any other related duties as assigned by Regional Materials Manager.
Requirements:
B.Sc. in Civil Engineering.
Min. 10 years of experience in construction industry and at least 7 years of which as Materials Engineer in Civil Works Projects
Excellent working knowledge of standards and codes EN, BS, ASTM, ACI, etc. for civil materials (i.e. aggregates, rocks, soils, concrete, asphalt, etc.)
Experience in laboratory management and/or materials testing experience to ISO 17025
Experience in performing QC activities including inspection of site works
Experience in applying good and sound engineering judgment to resolve quality material issues and problems (technical and engineering)
Sound analytical skills for the proper interpretation of results arising from materials inspections and tests
Lead and direct the Project Materials Engineers to perform their QC activities on site, including inspections of civil materials, testing and reporting
