Senior Electrical Engineer
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with over 7 years of expertise in the steel or aluminium recycling industry. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of maintenance and troubleshooting of critical electrical systems and components, including PLCs, drives, motors, transformers, and switchgear, used in the recycling and production process.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical Systems Management:
- Implement and maintain electrical systems for plant operations, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.
- Supervise and troubleshoot PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other automation equipment to minimize downtime.
- Monitor and maintain key electrical equipment such as furnaces, Decoater , Shredder and other utility equipments.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for critical components, including:
- Motors: Induction motors, synchronous motors, and servo motors.
- Drives: VFDs, servo drives, and soft starters.
- Transformers: Distribution and power transformers.
- Switchgear: High-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) switchgear.
- Control Panels: MCCs (Motor Control Centers) and PCCs (Power Control Centers).
- Sensors: Temperature, pressure, and proximity sensors.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical faults in components like relays, contactors, circuit breakers, and busbars.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, particularly in the operation of electrical systems like furnace transformers, feeders, and overcurrent protection devices.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments for electrical installations.
- Team Collaboration:
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and technicians on handling systems such as:
- PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, or similar).
- SCADA systems and HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces).
- Coordinate with vendors to procure and install high-quality electrical spares.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Optimize energy consumption in electrical systems, including the use of energy-efficient motors and drives.
- Research and implement advanced technologies for automation and monitoring, such as smart sensors and IoT-enabled equipment.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years in the steel or aluminium recycling industry.
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley).
- Hands-on experience with critical equipment like induction and arc furnaces, VFDs, and MCCs.
- Strong understanding of power distribution, including HV/LV systems and protection devices.
- Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex electrical systems.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with safety standards like IEC, NEMA, and OSHA guidelines.

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of aluminium recycling processes and expertise in ensuring the quality of ingots and billets as per customer and industry standards. This role requires a proactive individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to implement and maintain robust quality control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Assurance & Control:
- Develop and implement quality assurance protocols for aluminium ingots and billets.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of raw materials, recycled materials, and finished products.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards and customer specifications.
- Process Optimization:
- Analyze recycling processes to identify potential quality issues and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with production teams to optimize melting, casting, and alloying processes.
- Testing & Inspection:
- Perform chemical composition analysis using spectrometry and other relevant tools.
- Conduct mechanical property tests (tensile strength, hardness, etc.) on billets and ingots.
- Oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) to ensure structural integrity.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of quality inspections, test results, and non-conformance reports.
- Generate regular quality performance reports and present findings to management.
- Customer Interaction:
- Address customer quality complaints and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Liaise with customers to understand their specific requirements and ensure product compliance.
- Team Training & Development:
- Train production and quality teams on quality standards and procedures.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement in quality across the plant.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations related to aluminium recycling.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in the aluminium recycling industry, with a strong focus on quality control.
- Deep understanding of ingot and billet production processes and quality requirements.
- Proficiency in analytical tools and techniques such as spectrometry, NDT, and mechanical testing.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and other relevant industry certifications.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in working with different series aluminium alloys.
- Familiarity with advanced manufacturing technologies and automation in aluminium recycling.
