Dialysis Technician for Norvik Hospital Ltd., Uganda

Roles and Responsibilities

Operational

• Inspects the dialysis machine before beginning the procedure to ensure it is in compliance with safety standards.
• Explain dialysis procedure and operation of hemodialysis machine to patients before treatment to allay anxieties.
• Attend to possible complications (bleeding, hypotension etc.) developed by patients while undergoing the dialysis procedure.
• Conduct pre- and post-dialysis analysis of vitals, weight and other relevant tests and identify patterns of singularity that might need medical attention.
• Order necessary monthly tests for dialysis patients; closely monitor and evaluate lab investigation reports to understand possible future complications.
• Supervise and ensure implementation of emergency protocol (following instructions on operating emergency trolley, ensuring fellow team members are trained in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Educate and counsel patients on the procedures involved in the course of dialysis treatment; clarifying their concerns and questions about the treatment.
• Conduct regular rounds in the dialysis unit and monitor the progress of all patients undergoing dialysis therapy.
• Ensure updating of records in the Medical Record File for all patients before and after every dialysis procedure.
• Ensure adherence to Ministry of Health (MOH) standards and other relevant quality standards in all processes.
• Provide oversight to other technicians and nurses in the dialysis unit.
• Convey to the doctors any new change/event in patients.
• Assembling the dialysis machine and ensuring its proper performance.
• Ensuring the sterilization of operating equipment before use.
• Understanding patient physical and emotional concerns.
• Advise the management on medical matters relating to the dialysis facility and infrastructure.
• Conduct discharge assessment.
• Other duties as assigned

Desired Candidate Profile

• B.Sc./M.Sc. in Dialysis Technology/Medical Graduate through any of the recognized universities with 5 year of experience in dialysis department/BSc. Nursing
• Sound technical knowledge of dialysis and all associated procedures.
• Accreditation from a dialysis technician program would of an added advantage.
• Suitable clinical experience.

Salary will not be a restraint for the appropriate candidate.
