Plant Manager for Kaliti Food Share Company, Ethiopia

Experience: 10 to 20 yrs.  | Salary: U.S Dollars 20,000 - 30,000 P.A

Job Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The successful candidate shall possess an extensive experience in the overall management and coordination of biscuit plant operations; strong background in production and product development, maintenance and human resource management procedures; and technical knowledge in food processing technologies including mechanical, electrical and utility systems

  • Responsible for the overall management, production, maintenance and human resources of the KFSC biscuit plant 
  • Delivery of a general assessment, work plan and production plan within two weeks of employment
  • Development of products, enhancement of existing recipes and standardization of recipes to ensure consistent quality standards
  • Preparation of benchmarks for human productivity, utility consumption per unit, material consumption per unit, waste and scrap amount in each process according to the KFSC standards
  • Development of a production schedule and staff assignment including the establishment of production priorities for a variety of products and ensuring that all types, quantities and specifications of products are completed in required time-lines
  • Approval and direction of the design of new equipment and process systems, scheduling routine maintenance and the enhancement of automated manufacturing technologies to increase the quality and output of manufactured products
  • Establishment of a system to capture raw material consumption, utility consumption, manpower engagement, down time, spare part consumption, maintenance time and value
  • Delivery of strategy to minimize manufacturing costs and maximize production capacity through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital
  • Achievement of progressive growth of capacity utilization starting from existing figures to 50% in 6 months and 80% to 90% in 1 year
  • Management of financial budget for production operations to ensure cost-effective and profitable production 
  • Ensure optimum utilization of financial resources including the design and implementation of effective cost control measures to reduce the wastages and scrap
  • Formulation and implementation of policies and procedures designed to assure overall economic purchasing and efficient warehouse management, including providing advice in installing and enforcing an effective inventory management and control system
  • Preparation of annual budgets and work programs for activities under his/her supervision and submission of performance and produces reports to the COO & CEO
  • Review of manpower requirements, training processes and staff development in order to groom qualified personnel who will run the 36 TPD biscuit plant 
  • Preparation of standard operating procedures in all processes and sub-processes

Education Requirements 

  • BS/BSC or MS/MSC in related fields including, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology

Other Trainings (Preferable) 

  • Production Management Techniques such as Lean Manufacturing, TQM, Kizan, ISO Standards

Work Experience Requirements 

  • 5 or more years of biscuit production management experience in a large-scale GMP certified Food Processing Company
  • 2 or more years of work experience in technical/engineering aspect of manufacturing
  • 5+ years of Progressive experience in FMCG (preferred but not required)
  • Some exposure to and/or experience in a company that utilizes ISO and/or HACCP standards, ERP system and/or IPPMS applications (valued)
  • Experience in the expansion, scale-up and installation of production lines and/or sites (valued)

Additional Skills & Expertise 

  • Ability to understand, analyze and administer the maintenance of mechanical, electrical utility systems of the biscuit plant
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to facilitate relationships with upper management employees and provide direction for biscuit plant employees 
  • The position also requires strong decision-making and problem solving skills as well as time management skills to monitor and evaluate the performance of biscuit production unit
  • Ability to adopt quickly to a new culture, build a rapport with people through language barriers and drive performance in all areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to communicate well in English (Written & Verbal)

Remuneration: US$ 20,000- US$30,000 depending on experience  (negotiable)
