Role Objective: The incumbent is primarily responsible for leading the installation, configuration, monitoring and maintenance of the UNIX/Linux operating system software and/or platform, related applications and hardware. The incumbent will ensure maximum security, operational continuity and contingency controls for the UNIX/Linux operating system software and/or platform, related applications and hardware, WebSphere Application Server (WAS) administration and tuning.

    Main Responsibilities: 

    o Install, set-up, configure, and maintain the UNIX/Linux operating system software and/or platform, applications, and hardware including UNIX/Linux servers and computers according to the overall objectives of IT department as well as the Banks business plans.

    o Coordinate with Network Administrators, Database Administrators and Application Administrators in designing and implementing new solutions and/or troubleshooting system/application problems.

    o Set-up UNIX/Linux user accounts for new employees requiring access based on job responsibilities and functions as well as timely disable UNIX/Linux user accounts not in use and/or of resigned or terminated employees.

    o Identify and install approved patches and updates to UNIX/Linux systems in a timely manner.

    o Properly administer UNIX/Linux operating system software and/or platform and related applications running and ensure the availability of the systems.

    o Implement controls to prevent unauthorized access to UNIX/Linux systems. Implement suitable tools to Monitor and Control unauthorized system access.

    o Ensure that only required UNIX/Linux operating system services and features are enabled as required by the Banks operations to support and optimize system performance.

    o Identify and monitor utilization patterns, system capacity, their effect on operations and system availability and performance expectations and ensure that enough storage space is allocated and available to all users and applications.

    o Provide a reliable UNIX/Linux operating system environment in order that the applications meet the required service levels.

    o Analyze UNIX/Linux systems software and hardware or equipment performance records to determine the need for upgrade and repair or replacement.

    o Ensure that only authorized software are loaded into the Banks UNIX/Linux systems.

    o Execute change management procedures with version and backtrack control.

    o Develop and implement suitable system standards, procedures and baselines for UNIX/Linux operating system and servers to enhance system security.

    o Develop and implement suitable disaster recovery procedures for the Banks UNIX/Linux system.

    o Seek appropriate guidance from the Head of Infrastructure Systems in handling complex assignments.

    o Administrate and configure WAS, tuning when required.

    o Notify UNIX/Linux users of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability in a timely manner to ensure minimum impact on Banks operations and processing activities.

    o Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve problems or errors encountered with UNIX/Linux systems software, related applications, hardware, and components, and upgrade and replace defective components (as necessary) in a timely manner to minimize disruptions to business operations as well as escalate problems as necessary.

    o Back-up UNIX/Linux systems software, hardware, and configuration files on a regular basis, according to the Banks Information Technology policies and procedures, standards, and guidelines.

    o Ensure high standards of confidentiality to safeguard commercially sensitive information.

    Provide timely and accurate information to the external and internal auditors and the Compliance function as and when required.

    Educational Qualifications: 
    University degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering or in Computer Science.

    Work Experience: 
    5-10 years of relevant experience out of which a minimum of 2 years should be in a similar position / responsibility, preferably in the financial services vertical.
