Job Description and Required Knowledge
The Mainframe Computer Operations Specialist will have the necessary
qualifications and knowledge to perform the following responsibilities:
Manage the operations of the mainframe environment.
Ensure that the z/OS system is IPLed and operational at all times.
Manage the system console to ensure that all computer runs are displayed for successful completion
Ensure that all system partitions are operating properly. Out of line messages pending must be attended to with proper, timely action
Ensure that all computer operations are completed as per schedules provided.
All abnormal conditions should be communicated to the head of
Technical Support.
Be willing to work in 6 hour shifts.
Since Computer Operations are scheduled in operator shifts, all operations specialists are expected to work in shift duty. Each operations specialist should ensure proper handover between shifts to ensure smooth operation
Ensure that all computer hardware, peripheral devices and other resources such as tapes, print materials belonging to the computer room are kept in good order.
Ensure security of these resources. Damage, pilferage or misuse of any item should be immediately reported to management.
Maintain a regular computer operations log.
Review Call procedures regularly to ensure that the vendors engineer is notified promptly about malfunction of any component of the system.
Provide all necessary information to the vendors engineer and remain available to respond to any queries from the engineer until the failing component is repaired or replaced.
Any other activities and responsibilities deemed necessary for proper and efficient system operation. .
Experience
The ideal Mainframe Computer Operations Specialist must have at least 5 years experience in the z/OS System Operations environment with a proven track record.
To be successful in this position, one needs to be team-oriented with a demonstrated ability to work on multiple operation functions simultaneously in a deadline driven environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and logical thinking skills are also important.
Since the selected candidate will be working in a highly computerized environment, a demonstrated experience of word processing (Word), electronic spreadsheet (Excel), presentation (Power Point) and electronic mail is required.
