Position : Fleet Manager

Location : East Africa


Reporting to : GM - Operations

Job Profile: 

  • Oversee the management of the fleet like trailer puller trucks, medium range trucks, small pickups, saloon cars, fork lifts, heavy machinery, earth moving equipment etc.
  • Oversee deployment of drivers/operators, mechanics or other staff under section and regularly review their performance. In addition guide and mentor the team.
  • In liaise with dispatch, supply chain, customer care section etc. oversee logistics of FG, RM or other goods, schedule targeting optimal usage of fleet with minimal damage probabilities.
  • Ensure trip sheets by drivers are closed and endorsed as per SOP and set guidelines on each trip.
  • Pioneer in designing preventive maintenance program for all vehicles and equipment.
  • Supervise all workshop/Unit supervisors, their works, emphasize use of established guidelines, various repair manuals and standard safety practices.
  • Authorize requisitions, monitor inventory of spare parts, accessories and tools etc.
  • Authorize flow of vehicles awaiting maintenance or repairs. Reduce downtime to below minimum acceptable.

  • Keenly supervise works: Engines overhauls (rebuilds); transmissions overhauls; repair air conditioning units, differentials overhauls, brakes overhauls; repair and replaces electrical systems, (e.g., alternators starters, batteries, regulators).
  • Prepare and submit regular daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly reports summarizing health of fleet, road calls, status of goods in transit, break downs, accidents and equipment/vehicle performance on a standard format.
  • Set departmental KRAs/KPIs aligned to corporate objectives and achieve them with most efficient use of personnel, facilities and equipment etc.
  • Manage the departmental staff, including hiring, training where necessary, setting KRA/KPIs etc, performance management and discipline.
  • Identify external specialized workshop/garages of vehicle/equipment suppliers etc for specialized repairs, warranty period repairs etc.
  • Administer the testing and inspection program to determine quality, suitability, and compliance with the specifications for vehicles, parts, accessories and materials.
  • Supervise use/interpretation of information from on-board computers, diagnose complex vehicle or equipment problems and use advanced vehicle repair techniques.Regularly attend departmental meetings, attend to staff grievances and handle all issues as per departmental SOP or as guided by company GRR.
  • Any other duties assigned by the General Manager Operations.
