Buying & Merchandising Head for Sri Lanka

Experience: 13 to 15 yrs.  | Salary: INR 14,00,000 - 18,00,000 P.A

Purpose:

Plan, select and implement merchandise ranges and assortments for the Womens wear Category that
best meet the needs and requirements of the target customers and which will deliver the sales and profit
targets as per the business plan.

Responsibilities:

Planning, selection and sourcing of all merchandise for the categories with a view to achieving the sales/
intake margin, GM and sell through targets as per targets.
Manage in-season business by tracking and analysing sales information in order to identify opportunities
to increase sales, improve margins, optimize inventories and manage markdowns. Review inventory and
shelf life of merchandise.
Continually look to identify new potential product/ design opportunities and discuss with the Creative/
Design Department
Attend the category review meetings. Use fashion sense, knowledge of fashion trends, and
understanding of target customers needs and desires to select designs for inclusion within new
collections
Develop and maintain good relationships with suppliers and continually look to develop new sources of
supply, in line with market needs.
Manage the purchase order management process; from the initial placement of the order through to
delivery of merchandise in the warehouse.
Ongoing basis review and manage the open-to-buy against the plan.
Ensure that appropriate stock levels are maintained within agreed parameters.
Regularly review and analyse sales performance
Imitate and plan in-store promotional activities in association with Marketing
Attend trade fairs and visit major fashion centers across the world
Be aware of other markets to identify potential opportunities or threats
Establish and maintain a successful work culture. Coach and mentor staff to facilitate their professional
and personal growth
Train the buying team in best practice processes and ensure that these are followed by all team
members

Relationships:

Internal

Merchandise Planner/Merchandisers

o Weekly meetings prior to the beginning of the season to finalise financial
and merchandise plans
o Regular weekly meetings to discuss weekly sales and stock performance
with comparisons against budget
o Meeting every 3 months to discuss whether current plans needs to be
updated in line with projected sales performance.

Designers

o Regular review meetings to select new designs for forthcoming collections and discuss the success or
otherwise of previous collections.
O Provide directions new product developments for future collections
o Regular meetings to discuss progress with the development of designs for forthcoming collections
o Review historical seasonal performance, future trends and direction for the forthcoming season
Quality Controller/Technologist
o Regular meetings to discuss any quality issues with design team and ensure adherence to quality
standards are maintained
oAs required Gold Seal signing with the design team to ensure quality and design standards are
maintained and adhered to

Marketing,

o Regular meetings to discuss new collections and associated promotional activity

Retail Operations

o Regular monthly reviews in conjunction with design to introduce new collections and discuss any feedback about current collections from store personnel and customers
oAttend and help organise CSR training sessions prior to the launch of each new season
