Role description
* Designs and administers the structure, definition, control of all production databases, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, safety, integrity and availability of data.
* Responsible for data modeling and architecting when required.
* Determines work methods from several existing alternative methods according to professional standards and established policies.
* Responsible in automating data base maintenance jobs, DBA tasks through shell scripts, implements data archive system and maintains and enforces data integrity rules to ensure data accuracy.
* Provides sufficient control to the data access by each application and develops mechanisms to ensure adequate control on access to database by development group. Maintain passwords and other computer security methods.
* Designs and implements high availability databases.
* Maintains DBMS software and OS up to date with the latest patch installations.
* Continuously monitors file usage and suggests re-organization as and when required for better utilization of the existing facilities.
* Arranges for database back-ups and security copies to ensure recovery, if necessary.
* Maintains a contingency plan for data recovery and periodic testing and trial of this contingency plan to ensure its validity.
* Monitors current system performance of the database and assists in identification and correction of performance bottlenecks and ensures the provision of 24 hours data base support. Maintains confidentiality and safety of data.
* Liaises with System and Application Administrators and provides optimum usage rules for database application.
* Interfaces with vendors technical support for database related issues.
