Qualification and Skill:
1. Qualified Civil Engineer with Bachelor Degree or equivalent professional experience of at least 10 years. Master Degree in Transportation will be preferable.
2. Candidate must typically specialize in asphalt and bitumen. One must have capacity to develop new asphalt mix designs. Applicant must also have expertise to use composite of such mix, with ability to study the asphalt structure of materials in order to discover new applications for their usability as per requirement. Candidate must be well versed to use tools, lab equipment and computer technology to process materials.
3. Accredited member of an internationally recognized professional institution
4. Good command of spoken and written English
General Professional Experiences:
1. Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in bitumen / asphalt mix design
2. Design and create new material and the processing technology to produce such material.
3. Analyze material and data, conduct tests, troubleshooting and monitoring performance, insuring quality control and creating documentation.
4. Well versed for applicable standards in industry.
5. Responsible for developing new methods of testing, training technicians and lab workers, maintaining inventories and ordering supplies as per company policy with staying up-to-date on industry standards, government regulations and new developments in field.
Specific Professional Experiences:
1. Must have sound knowledge and expertise of bitumen tests such as but not limited to Softening Point Test (Ring & Ball), Penetration Test, Ductility Test, Elastic Recovery of Bitumen, Viscosity Test, Flash Point Test, Specific Gravity Test, Loss on Heating Test, Thin Film Oven Test (TFOT) and Rolling Thin Film Oven Test (RTFOT). Candidate must have dexterity in carrying out Performance Grade tests(Rotational Viscometer, Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR), Bending Beam Rheometer (BBR), and Direct Tension Tester) on bitumen as per current standards. Candidate must also be aware of Separation Tests, Solubility, Recovery and Stress-Strain Tests for modified binders.
2. Must be adept in tests of emulsified and cutback bitumen.
3. Must have sound knowledge and expertise of Aggregate/Asphalt MixTests such as but not limited to Sieve Analysis and Binder Content, Theoretical Maximum Specific Gravity (GMM), Bulk Specific Gravity of Compacted Mix (GMB), Marshall Stability Test, Marshall Flow Test, Tensile Strength Ratio (TSR), Compaction Test (Density of Bituminous Paving Mixtures in Place), Skid Resistance Test (Measurement if Surface Frictional Properties), Sand Patch Test (Measurement of Surface Macrotexture Depth), Surface Regularity Test (Travelling Beam), Straight Edge Test, core test of asphalt layer.
4. Must have sound knowledge and expertise in bitumen modification and additives such as but not limited to Elastomers, Plastomers, CRM, Mixed Modification, Chemical Modification, Extenders, Oxidants and Antioxidants, Hydrocarbons and Antistripping Additives. Knowledge and skill to use Air blown bitumen will be a distinct advantage.
5. Particular knowledge of innovative highway engineering materials such as roller-compacted concrete, improved natural gravels and low-volume bitumen seals will be a distinct advantage.
6. Previous experience with labor-intensive rural road construction in developing countries is desirable.
