Sailing Engineer

    • The sailing engineer oversees all aspects engineering on the vessels and ensures that maintenance routines are effectively carried out.
    • Maintain a ships mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.
    • Start the engine and regulate the vessels speed, following the captains orders.
    • Record information in an engineering log.
    • Keep an inventory of mechanical parts and supplies.
    • Do routine maintenance checks throughout the day.
    • Calculate refueling requirements.

    Equipment used on board:
    • Vessel: shrimp trawler, 130GRT, equipped with plate freezer
    • Main Engine: Cat 3412
    • Auxiliary Engine: Cat 3304
    • Generator: SR4, 85KVA
    • Winch: McElroy 504,505 and Coastal winches
    • Gearbox: Twindisc 520 variants
    • Compressors: Carrier (5F40/60) and Bitzer (6Y)

    Required Candidate profile
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • 8+ years of experience.
    • Orientated towards preventive maintenance.
    • Problem solver, hands-on approach.
    • Ability to work with different cultures.
    • Strong communicator. In case the issue cannot be resolved, quickly escalate to base
    • Team-player.
    • Trustworthy, reliable.

    • The engineer must have a broad technical knowledge: Mechanical (engines and winches), Electrical and Refrigeration.
    • Experience in maritime industry is a must.
    • Coaching ability, transfer of knowledge to colleagues

  • Port Captain

    • The port captain is responsible for the production of the fishing trawlers at sea. Via daily radio reports he monitors the production. 
    • Oversees and establishes performance and operation standards for deck and navigational systems.
    • The port captain oversees the issues of fishing related items and parts. He can evaluate the condition of fishing gear (fishing nets, blocks, wires) and guide captains on how to improve production. Oversees the training of sea-going staff (techniques & safety).
    • Together with the head of maintenance, he ensures that the vessel can sail within the turnaround period. All aspects related to the shipping have to be in order (administrative & legislative).
    • Reports to the fleet manager. In collaboration with the fleet manager, the port captain schedules, budgets and ensures compliance with licences, permits and other codes and regulations. Advises for new developments which may affect profit & costs.

  • Required Candidate profile
    • Minimum 8 years of experience in fishing industry; Shrimp trawling is a bonus.
    • Minimum 3 years as a captain for a shrimp trawler.
    • Basic knowledge of marine law.
    • Positive approach, directive, decision making.
    • Leadership skills.
    • Problem solving skills, ability to deal with emergency situations. 
    • Strong negotiating skills.
    • Competitive.
    • Knowledge of navigational systems.
    • Innovative, working knowledge of new techniques.
    • Analytical skills.

  • Marine Captain

    • The captain is the master of the ship. He is the overall responsible for the performance of the vessel, from start to finish. 
    • He works closely with the engineer and officer, taking care of the companys assets and resources, in order to maximize the production. 
    • Responsible for the safe operation of their vessel and must ensure that it is operated and crewed according to both company and legal guidelines.
    • Investigate any damage to the vessel, personal injuries of crew and the environmental effects of the vessel; this includes monitoring any pollution and checking for oil spills around the vessel and at ports and harbors. 
    • You must maintain all on-board equipment, including machinery, engines and safety equipment with regular inspection.
    • Monitor daily progress of the vessel, observing speed, engine pressure and water depths, and signaling any passing ships.
