ASSISTANT WORKSHOP TECHNICAL MANAGER



General


The Assistant Workshop Technical Manager assists the Workshop Technical Manager in maintenance and repair of all fleets in Harare. The focus is to assist on defining,

implementing, improving and maintaining state of the art workshop systems.


The Assistant Workshop Technical Manager has overall responsibility for all workshop operations at all times.

The Assistant Workshop Technical Manager reports directly to the Workshop Technical Manager.


Duties& Responsibilities


The scope of responsibilities of the Assistant Workshop Technical Manager assists in all Workshop areas (Mechanics, Trailers, Repair Shop, Panel Beating, Electricians,

Welders, Oil, Paint, Washbay and Workshop Administration Departments,) and the fleet (the fleet includes: forklifts, company cars, generators, trucks, trailers and any other machinery and or vehicles used within the Company, overseeing and developing each area and managing the human resources, in order to guarantee the efficiency and quality of service within the Company.


Outline of Duties & Responsibilities:


Assists in providing efficient and effective day to day management of workshop and liaise with stores to ensure all parts and spares are available to fit;

Assist to maintain and manage all data and records of the fleet in FMS whilst advising which vehicle should move between fleets and ensuring that the physical vehicle matches with the record on FMS;

Assigning work areas and tasks to subordinates and ensuring the timely completion of the same;

Maintaining awareness levels of all workshop employees regarding health and safety in the workplace;

Developing and complying with all HSES regulations for all work processes in the workshop area by developing anti-theft measures and assuming full

responsibility for all tools, spare parts, diesel, etc;

Ensuring the appropriate usage and handling of testing tools and repair equipment;


Liaise with Operations department to receive a list of all expiring VIDs. Do a vehicle pre check and ensure all in order and assigns workshop representative to take the vehicle to the Government Vehicle Inspection Department and go through the process of the inspection;

Following FMS stores procedures and make sure that filled job orders are always kept up to date;

Managing pro-actively the availability of spare parts with the ultimate goal to reduce unscheduled downtime of the fleet to 30 minutes;

Ensure that all spares requirements are communicated to stores department, in order to ensure that stores carry sufficient stocks to minimize vehicle down time

and that any extraordinary repairs are planned for in advance (where possible);

Provide detailed information to stores about spares needs, in order to ensure that all spares purchased meet manufacturers and company specifications;

Assists stores in maintaining the standard of the retreaded tyres and tyres. Using expertise to ensure the tyre is technically sound.

Perform other tasks as may be required by the Workshop Technical Manager.

Hard Skills Background / Technical Competences

Academic Background: Apprenticeship/ Class One Mechanic;

Experience required (minimum/maximum): 5-10 years, preferably in Transports, managing a medium/large workshop;

Good understanding of the Business and Business Needs;

IT knowledge: good knowledge of Microsoft Office products (word; excel);

Age (minimum / maximum): 35-45;

Others: English – full command of the English language, both written and spoken;

Time availability: willingness to work nights and weekends as per workload.
