The Opportunity 
In this position, you will have the opportunity to: 
  • Contribute to teaching of degree level courses across the Biology curriculum, preferably in general ecology (terrestrial and marine) and biostatistics.
  • Teach or contribute to at least three courses in biology discipline including postgraduate courses.
  • Contribute to teaching through the distance and flexible learning mode at other USP campuses within the Pacific Islands.
  • contribute to the Schools postgraduate programs, supervise research students,
  • Undertake research in his/ her area of expertise.
  • Seek out internal and external research grants in the area of research for the School and support the Faculty and University mission and goals as set out in the Strategic Plan.

The Person We Seek:
To be considered for this position, you must have:
  • A PhD in General Ecology or a closely related field with good knowledge of biostatistics and a very good basic honours/Masters degree in biology.
  • Relevant tertiary teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake research and supervise research students.
  • Good research and publication record in general ecology and closely related areas.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and students.


For appointment at the Senior Lecturer level;
  • The applicant must have a demonstrated ability to contribute to the graduate and postgraduate teaching programme including the supervision of research students at Masters and PhD level, a very good research and publication record.
  • In addition, a Senior Lecturer will normally require a record of demonstrable scholarly and professional achievement in the relevant discipline area.

Preference will be given to applicants who have worked in developing countries and who are able to demonstrate their ability to work in a multicultural environment; demonstrate sound leadership skills and willing to work as a member of a dynamic team; have experience in supervising postgraduate research students; demonstrated success in attracting external research funding and in completing grant applications.
Salary Range:
Lecturer F$66 990 to F$88 144 per annum
Senior Lecturer F$90 882 to F$104 865 per annum

Professor in Economics


Experience: 10 to 20 yrs.


The University seeks to appoint a Professor in Economics to join the School, well renowned for good learning and teaching practices and outstanding research in the discipline of Economics with particular emphasis on developing economies including Pacific Islands. 

The Opportunity 
  • The successful candidate will be based at the USPs Laucala Campus and will be required to deliver lectures in Economics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the face to face mode and through the distance and flexible and online modes.
  • The appointee will be expected to chair various committees and also assist the Head of School in development of the Schools profile and participate in the Schools expanding distance learning programme.
  • The appointee will be expected to work with stakeholder groups and involve in consultancies and develop or lead new research projects. He/ she will also be expected to supervise Masters and PhD thesis students.
  • The appointee should be willing to travel widely among the USP member countries for teaching and research purposes.

The Person We Seek
Applicants must have a 

  • PhD in Economics with strong foundation on quantitative and methodological research relating to development and growth
  • Extensive University level teaching with 10 years of teaching
  • Outstanding research, consultancy and publications record in leading economics journals
  • Knowledge of economics software packages
  • A proven record of supervision of research students
  • Excellent people skills and ability to develop and lead teams

SALARY:

Professor Level: F$129,078.01 to F$139,543.99 per annum

Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor


Experience: 4 to 9 yrs.


The Opportunity: 
  • In this role, you will have the opportunity to be involved in designing and delivering this postgraduate program, while producing high quality and high-impact research on management and/or public administration.
  • The appointee will teach degree level courses across the management and public administration curriculum and will also be expected to contribute to teaching through the distance education mode at other University Campuses within the Pacific Islands.
  • The School is also linked to a newly formed aid-funded Pacific Islands Centre for Public Administration which will provide exciting consulting opportunities for the successful applicant including travel around the Region and the opportunity to contribute to crucial policy making for the Pacific Island nations and the Region.

The Person We Seek 
Applicants must have:
  • A PhD in management and/or public administration or related discipline
  • Good relevant tertiary teaching experience of 4 years for Lecturer level and 10 years for Senior Lecturer level
  • Demonstrated ability to teach experienced officials using adult learning techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to work as member of a team in a multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the context of public administration in developing countries and/ or the Pacific region
  • A track record of research publications in high quality journals and other outlets

For Appointment at the Associate Professor level, you should have an international reputation in high-quality research and publications, evidence of excellent teaching, demonstrated ability to attract research funds and significant experience in academic management. 

Preference will be given to those with experience working or consulting in the public and/or private sector.

Associate Professor F$111,229 to F$125,133 per annum

Assistant Lecturer/ Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Coral Reef Ecology


Experience: 1 to 6 yrs.

The Opportunity 
In this role you will have the opportunity to: 
  • Develop and teach undergraduate courses in coral reef ecology for a BSc in Marine Science offered by the Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment, through the School of Marine Studies;
  • Develop an active research programme addressing consequential questions in the ecology, evolution and conservation of coral reefs in the region;
  • Assist in supervising postgraduate students and contribute to consultancies undertaken by the School;
  • Establish an externally funded research program to support the Faculty and University Mission and goals as set out in the University Strategic Plan.

The Person We Seek
For appointment at Assistant Lecturer level, applicants must have :
  • A good Masters degree in the relevant field, with either a formal tertiary teaching qualification or an aggregate of 12 months teaching experience and preferably one indexed publication in high impact journals.

For appointment at Lecturer level, applicants must have:
  • A relevant PhD, a good research and publications record and a formal tertiary teaching qualification or good tertiary teaching experience.

For appointment at Senior Lecturer level, applicants must have:
  • A relevant PhD, an excellent research and publications record, evidence of successfully attracting research funds and significant experience in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Candidates studying coral bleaching, adaptation to climate change and connectivity of coral reefs and employing state-of-the-art ecological/ population/ functional genomics are particularly welcomed to apply.


For appointment at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, please submit a two page plan of your future research program and three, one page each, annotated publications highlighting the chief contribution and impact in the field of the work with evidence of citations for papers published in 2012 or before.


Preference will be given to; 
  • Candidates with excellent communication skills;
  • Experience with Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network; Experience and an aptitude for underwater photography (film & video);
  • Ability to identify a wide range of coral reef organisms. Experience in developing and teaching distance and flexible learning would also be an advantage.
