Basic Function:
Implements, maintains, monitors, resolves problems and nature of company centrally located computing systems Mainframe, Supercomputers, Workstations and Microsoft Windows NT LAN Servers as well as multi-vendor UNIX Workstations. Provides technical guideline to user on current and new techniques of system software and associated system application software.
Work Performed:
Plans, implements, maintains and tunes systems software for the efficient operation of data Centre mainframe, UNIX System and NT LAN Services.
Detects errors and ensures prompt resolution of system breakdowns to minimize operational impacts as well as rectifying systems connectivity bottlenecks across various servers.
Manages system availability, maintains its quality, security, reliability and optimum usability, Sets control to minimize risk factors and safeguards company investments.
Monitors system performance, identifies and rectifies complex system malfunctions. Provides technical assistance to resolve queries and recommends preventive measures.
Evaluates and reviews manufacturer’s software products and amendments. Testes new procedures, software or modifications.
Recommends based on the consolidated physical and visual observations of evaluated software products to the management regarding system upgrades and charts out project plans for subsequent implementation.
Manages all systems software amendments and upgrades and supervises the implementation to an agreed plan and time scale.
Selects, implements and maintains appropriate accounting and statistical packages in order to monitor the utilization of various computer systems and the associated peripherals.
Plans, implements, and controls data storage utilization, disk space allocation and hardware configurations.
Assists in the finalization of IS&T strategic and long term plans, includes the assessments of equipment capacity utilization, system performance and future projections for management review and direction.
Keeps up to date with current trends in information technology and recommends the appropriate products and tools to the management to enhance the service quality for all company users.
Participates in the planning and testing of disaster recovery procedures to avoid any unexpected system failures.
Participates in formulation, and maintenance of standards and procedures manuals related to server policies and procedures.
Prepares detailed project plans and reports the progress of related tasks within the stipulated time frame to management.
Performs other similar related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors of Science or Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
8 years’ experience in data processing of which at least 5 years in systems programming function in the relevant operating systems and network computing environments including, INIX platforms, Microsoft Window NT, Client/ Server technology and TCP/IP network connectivity.
Good knowledge of English
