Business:
    • Managing, the execution, direction and coordination of all transportation matters within the company, including managing budgets, organizing schedules and routes, ensuring that the fleet is safe and meets legal requirements and that drivers are fully aware of their duties, responsibilities and accountabilities.
    • Ensuring that fresh sugarcane is delivered to the factory as required, without fail while observing road safety, safety of other road users and in a cost effective way that maximizes the fleets capability.
    • Ensuring that the company fleet is compliant with the traffic rules and regulations.
    • Developing transportation relationships, negotiating and bargaining transportation prices, contracting outsourced transporters and ensuring that they operate safe vehicles and comply with traffic rules and regulations.

  • Monitoring and Control:
    • Monitoring and evaluating transport costs and advising management on strategies to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the company fleet and reduce costs. Formulate strategies to reduce fuel pilferages, auditing and controlling fuel consumption and repairs and maintenance cost.
    • Managing the transport workshop, spare parts stores, ensuring adequate supply of parts is available at all times and responsible for their custody. Safeguard against pilferage and wastage. Ensuring that the workshop staff are working at their optimum level and that the they produce quality work, without having to repeat the jobs.
    • Allocating and recording resources and movements on the transport planning and monitoring system.
    People:
    • Responsible for recruitment, training, development, performance management, communication, staff interaction, motivation/mentoring & retention of the entire team under supervision in co-ordination with HR Department.
    • Set annual goals for all the officers and supervisors and conduct performance evaluation.
    • Ensure direct person to person contact with all staff at all times.
    • Training and sensitization of all drivers and loaders.
    • Put in place incentives for the department to ensure maximum efficiency.
