3+ years Industry experience of vSphere / RHEL System Administration & Support. (With 5+ years of IT experience.)
Solid experience of VMware Virtualisation Processes, Procedures and Best Practices.
Solid Administration / Support / troubleshooting and deployment skills. (Preferably at the latest levels of vSphere and RHEL.)
Good communication and presentation skills.
Ability to communicate and summarize complex technical issues in efficient and clear English language.
Ability to independently research / plan new vSphere / RHEL requirements. This could include potential use of currently product features currently not used within the current environment.
Methodical approach to planning, change control and testing.
Good mentoring and knowledge transfer skills.
Good documentation skills.
In depth deployment/administration/support and troubleshooting experience of the following:
vSphere:
ESX server functions and features
vCenter functions and features
Storage configuration
Virtual networking Configuration
VM Definitions including Processor and Memory considerations
Software upgrade / version migration methodologies and procedures
Official VMware Support Processes
Base VMware:
Cluster Configuration
HA failover & testing strategies
Software upgrade / version migration methodologies and procedures
Red Hat Linux Operating (RHEL) System Support:
Deployment of Base Operating System on Physical and Virtual machines
Backup / restore techniques
VMware image deployment and Management
Adding / Removing and maintaining filesets/packages
Adding / Removing and maintaining users
Adding / Removing and maintaining printer queues
Experience of performance monitoring tools
Solid shell scripting skills
Software upgrade / version migration methodologies and procedures
Official RHEL Support processes.
VMware / Red Hat Linux related Product / Industry Certifications (such as VMware VCP and RHCE.)
Experience of using VMware in IBM Storage environment an advantage.
