- Primary responsibility is to perform optical design activities in accordance to QSG design process with focus on quick turn-around time to respond to RFQs and Sales Orders, this will mainly be analyzing requirements, generating optical concepts, counter-proposals and detailed design tasks through to prototypes and FAT
- Interpret customers requirements to generate optical designs and tolerance budgets. Generate optical drawings in accordance to ISO10110
- Ensure proper engineering documentation (Zemax files, design reports, etc.), life cycle and data management in Product Data Management (PDM) system
- Build, test and refine prototypes to meet design specifications through verification & validation
- Support Operations as a technical resource on product design issues. Represent the R&D team during all engineering builds and production ramp-ups
- Provide technical communications and represents Company as technical contacts to customers and/or government regulatory agencies
- Participate in design reviews with customers when required and prepare/present optics design portion of design reviews. Also create design reports when required
- Special projects and other duties as assigned
- Degree in Science or PhD in Optics / Optical Engineering, Physics or equivalent
- Min 2 years related experiences
- Strong knowledge of optics and optical engineering principles required
- Proficiency with optical design and analysis software such as Zemax or Code V required
- Proficiency with 2D or 3D CAD drafting software such as AutoCAD or Solidworks required
- Hands-on experience with mounting and alignment of optical components required
- Excellent organizational and communications skills required
- Experience in optical testing preferred
- Analytical ability to trouble-shoot problems, perform root cause analysis and generate solutions preferred
- Quality Standards (such as ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO13485) knowledge and audit experience preferred
- Product Data Management (PDM) systems knowledge preferred
