Staff Engineer - Product Management (Expat)


Job Summary

As a member of the Product Marketing team, the Staff Engineer, Product Management Expat will assist the Product Marketing team in growing pSemis cellular RF Front-End portfolio and support products through the product lifecycle from definition, sampling, and production release to end-of-life. This position is located at Murata Headquarters and requires relocation to Kyoto, Japan.

Roles & Responsibilities

This position has responsibility for:

  • Collaborate with tier 1 customers and marketing, systems, and design engineering teams to define system and performance requirements, feature set, and architecture definition for sophisticated IC designs for cellular RF front-end modules for 4/5G smartphones
  • Work closely with engineering teams to define performance and system level requirements of RFICs such as high-performance power amplifiers (PA), low noise amplifiers (LNA), and RF switches, and create Product Requirements Documents (PRDs)
  • Participate in cross functional teams to ensure product specifications and schedules are met per customer/partner and market expectations
  • Lead problem resolution and identify required resources, tasks, and investigation paths to quickly solve issues, keep projects on-schedule, and maintain on-time sample delivery for engineering prototypes and pre-production builds
  • Negotiate technical requirements and specifications with customers/partners, create detailed documentation and effectively communicate product and program details
  • Work with Program Management to drive product development goals up to and including release to production, and participate in architecture, module, and IC-level design reviews
  • Bridge the gap between module, filter and IC development teams regarding feasible performance levels and challenges of design and implementation
  • Present customer presentations covering technology and product capability and strengths
  • Communicate with various teams to provide the most recent customer information, requirement changes, and drive for consensus between teams

Minimum Qualifications (Experience and Skills)

  • Minimum of 8 years of industry experience with a BSEE or 6 years with MSEE and 3+ years of technical marketing, design, applications or systems engineering experience in a high tech environment
  • Experience in RFICs or analog/mixed-signal semiconductors
  • Strong technical background in RF: experience in smartphone RF Front End or IC design, systems or applications engineering; Understanding of 5G, 4G, Wi-Fi, GPS, and other wireless connectivity standards
  • Product Knowledge: Understanding of RFICs such as power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers, and RF switches. Understanding the value of product performance attributes and ability to prioritize requirements for development team
  • Process Knowledge: Understanding of the semiconductor product development process including product definition, design, validation, qualification, testing and production
  • A team player with excellent technical writing, written and verbal communication skills, and presentation skills
  • Outstanding customer service skills: builds strong relationships with customers; stays aware of customer needs, concerns and satisfaction; responds promptly to customer questions and requests; effectively manages customer expectations
  • Willingness to travel, both domestic and international ~20% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Japanese language and culture (Japanese language fluency is not a requirement for the position)
  • Self-motivated, fast learner who is proactive, can quickly solve problems and responds rapidly to changing conditions in a fast-paced environment
  • Detailed oriented with excellent time management skills who meets deadlines, works independently, is accountable, maintains focus, and punctual
  • Outstanding leadership skills

Education Requirements

  • Minimum BS (MS preferred) degree in Electrical Engineering

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
