Database Administrator Role
The Database Administrator will be part of an infrastructure team which is responsible for all aspects of Database administration on production environments. The role is mainly centered on knowledge transfer and mentoring of Junior DBAs. The responsibilities include design and maintenance of database infrastructure. He or she will also be involved in database performance tuning, implementing backup solutions and capacity planning. This person will work closely with other DBAs in a global team as well as application, systems operations and engineering teams. The Senior Database Administrator will be working in majority Oracle11g/10g/RAC/MySQL databases on Linux/Solaris/windows.
Position Objectives and responsibilities
- Mentoring and knowledge transfer to other Junior DBAs
- Produce technical documentation related to the databases under management according to technology standards
- Participate in project estimating activities and design
- Regular database capacity planning related to database growth and system utilization, trend analysis and predicting future database resource requirements.
- Defining and implementing consistent standards across systems.
- Defining database configuration standards related to performance and sizing for both transactional and data warehouse databases.
- Strong knowledge of UNIX shell or Perl scripting languages
- Strong Performance analysis and Tuning of both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases
- Self Starter who can work in mission critical environment without any supervision.
- Develop and implement database performance monitoring process and analyze monitoring data for performance optimization opportunities and capacity planning
- Plan for and execute any required database upgrades and migration (patches, etc.)
- Communicate database requirements to the development team for the design and implementation of database-related code
- Help define back-up & recovery strategy
- Help define archiving strategy
- Help define disaster recovery strategy
- Oracle RAC experience with DW systems
- Oracle RAC experience with OLPT systems
- Oracle Data Guard experience
- Oracle Golden gate experience
- Database Security; PCI, CPNI, SOX controls, TDE / Oracle encryption. Oracle Advanced Security
- Data Warehouse; Materialized views (building, designing, query rewrite), OLAP, Data Mining , Use of hybrid 3NF and dimensional data models in same database
Critical skills:
- Thorough knowledge of Oracle RDBMS 11g/10g RAC environments.
- 5-8yrs experience in Oracle Database Administration/support in Oracle RDBMS 11g, 10g, 9i in 24x7x365 production environments.
- About 3+ years of parallel experience in setting up and maintaining production Oracle RAC environments.
- Strong Database and RAC implementations experience and troubleshooting skills in mission critical Environment.
- Setting up and maintaining Dataguard on 11g, 10g with MAA.
- Experience with setting up and managing ASM instances.
- Strong knowledge of Oracle Database Tuning and using AWR/ADDM.
- Demonstrated, in-depth knowledge of database internals and data structures
- Strong knowledge of SQL/SQL*Plus and understanding of PL/SQL and stored procedures/packages. Familiarity with Oracle's supplied PL/SQL packages such as dbms_stats, dbms_job, etc.
- Strong Knowledge of Database Backup and recovery using RMAN and logical backups
- Thorough knowledge of MySQL environment. and concepts in versions 4.x, 5.x
- 2+ years parallel experience in MySQL Database Administration/support in 24x7x365 production environments.
- Strong MySQL troubleshooting skills
- Strong knowledge of MySQL Database performance Tuning and identifying bottlenecks
- Demonstrated, in-depth knowledge of database internals and data structures
- Strong Knowledge of Database Backup and recovery.Knowledge of backup systems such as Alvamar on datadomain would be an added advantage
- Understanding of OEM and Oracle grid-control
