Job Description
• Professional engineering and technical support to all operating groups of Gas Recycling Department.
• Optimizes, Identifies & implements any process change requirements.
• Optimize scope of work for any new projects, modifications or improvements submitted for tender and planned shutdowns with associated resources in coordination with other department.
• Anticipates, identifies and initiates actions necessary to cater for future changes in operational requirements for continual improvement. Monitors, analyses and reports on the performance of Gas Recycling plant.
• Responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of new projects which have been assigned to him from the conceptual stage, FEED stage, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up and subsequent operation.
• Assist in preparing departments weekly, quarterly, annual reports. Assists in preparation tender documents minor/emergency shutdown.
• Responsible to ensure understanding and adherence to work practices.
Principal Accountabilities
• Provides process engineering support to the Gas Recycling Department to ensure optimization of the various processes . Must also provide process engineering support for pipeline engineering matters.
• Identifies plant, process or operating changes necessary to ensure that the production facilities maintain high levels of safety, operability and efficiency. Initiates the implementation of Plant Change Requests for carrying out modifications to existing facilities or alternatively, reviews all Plant Change Requests (PCR) submitted by Gas Recycling Operations, or other groups, and thoroughly reviews and evaluates the requirement for such requests on an individual basis, using sound engineering judgement. Ensures PCR's are processed strictly in accordance with the OP PCR Procedure and follows up their implementation with OEE.
• Performs process simulations using available simulation tools such as HYSIS, PRO-II and Pipe phase. Prepares simulation input data and analyses output data using good process engineering skills and judgement. Uses simulation techniques to assist with the investigation of trouble shooting problems, and to evaluate and monitor existing production processes, to ensure process optimisation.
• Ensures full utilisation of various process engineering software programmes that are available. Full familiarity with process engineering hand calculations is essential.
• Must be fully conversant and experienced in safety and environmental engineering matters.
• Develop Statements of Requirements assigned to him, for projects proposed and approved for implementation. Ensures that the content and the structure of the SOR document complies with the requirements of the project and the appropriate industrial codes and standards, and that the asset holder's requirements are fully addressed.
• Participates in Investigation Committees as directed and either prepares reports or assists with the preparation of investigation reports for management.
• Provides technical services as directed within the Gas Recycling Plant and to other departments with all aspects relating to the production process facilities.
This includes :-
• Prepares procedures and participates in field trials of process units in the Gas Recycling Plant, to determine throughputs, identify bottlenecks and ensure processes are operating safely and efficiently. Reviews and evaluates field trial data and prepares comprehensive report. Troubleshoots problematic processes and determines reasons and recommends solutions to overcome to resolve problems. Coordinates field trials of new chemicals to determine most favourable chemical from a technical and economic view point.
• Represents Gas Recycling Department in Project Audit Teams, Design reviews P&ID reviews, Quantitative Risk Analysis, Safety Analysis, Hazops, and Investigation of Incidents etc. Follow up on studies to ensure close out of recommended actions.
• Assists with Gas Recycling Department's input to the Business Plan in accordance with the Planning Instructions and Assumptions. Also contributes to Gas Recyling Departments contribution to the Business Plan.
• Represents Gas Recycling Department at meeting regarding technical and operational issues and has regular contact with other departments such as Onshore Engineering, Operations Engineering, EE, FD, TD, GP, TO, SFE, QA and maintains regular contact with companies and engineering contractors as appropriate.
• Monitors all safety and environmental engineering aspects relevant to the Department and takes appropriate action to ensure compliance.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• B.SC/ HND in Chemical, Process Engineering discipline plus Corporate Membership of the appropriate Engineering Institution i.e. Institution of Chemical Engineers. Fluent in written and spoken English.
• 12-15 years experience in chemical engineering or production/ process operations in the petroleum/petrochemical industry, preferably with a production company, with at least 3 years experience working in an operations, technical support or development group.
