Senior Telecommunications Engineer (Qatar)

Experience: 8 - 13 Years

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Senior Engineer is responsible for development of the system designs for the project. He/she will allocate each system to a discipline engineer but will be responsible for overall system inter-operability.
Candidates shall have a minimum of 10 years design office and site experience in EPC or turnkey projects for the Oil & Gas, Petrochem and/or Power Industries. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a contractors design office. This senior role requires the candidate to have extensive working experience in industrial telecommunications engineering.
This is a senior discipline role and the candidate shall have extensive experience working in the field of industrial telecommunications. The candidate shall have strong communication skills and technical knowledge to support other discipline engineers within his/her department in the field of telecommunications.
The candidate shall report directly to the Lead Engineer.
The candidate shall be self-motivated and proactive.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Excellent spoken and written English language skills; able to communicate clearly and precisely with team members.
Strong communication skills - be able to communicate proficiently on behalf of the Company with Clients, Contractors, service providers and Vendors on telecommunications engineering matters and be able to communicate design requirements clearly with CAD operator team and be able to monitor and manage the drafting works.
Degree in industrial telecommunications or equivalent from a recognized University.
Some Middle East experience (experience of Middle East projects may be acceptable).
Operate in a multi-discipline engineering team environment, interface and coordinate with other disciplines, lead and execute inter-disciplinary engineering checks. Interface with the proposal team.
Able to negotiate technical vendor packages for detailed integration scope.
Manage and coordinate the activities and outputs of a small group of engineers to ensure technical quality and work completion to meet project/proposal deadlines.
Ensure compliance with all Client and Company HSE policy & procedures.
Sound understanding of common international codes and standards.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
Manage and technically direct the development of engineering drawings, e.g. layouts, block diagrams, schematic diagrams, installation details, cable schedules, bills of quantities and all other related deliverables.
Experience in developing technical procurement specifications.
Experience in carrying out technical audits, evaluations and adjudications of third party designs, reviewing vendor documents, review & approval of capital and bulk materials.
Computer literacy - must have excellent working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word and MS Access. Be able to produce reports, specifications, schedules and calculation notes etc. in a given agreed structured and presentable format.
Ability to work within multi-discipline engineering team and be able to execute and coordinate inter-discipline engineering checks.
Good experience of site technical support in terms of construction mechanical completion and technical pre-commissioning support to site construction/commissioning teams.
Must have the ability to manage and coordinate a small group of designers and CAD operators in relation to guiding, checking of technical quality and organising work activities to meet projects/proposals deadlines.
In-depth knowledge of principles/theory of field telecommunications engineering.
Sound understanding of telecommunications systems, covering 3 or more of the technologies in the sub-sets below:
- DATA & TELEPHONY: fibre optic networks, telephones/PABX, data networks (LAN/WAN), radio systems (HF/VHF/UHF/TETRA), WAN backbone microwave systems, SDH/PDH systems.
- SECURITY: closed circuit television, MATV, access control system, public address/general alarm systems.
Ability to develop the key system architectures/network topologies for the above telecommunications systems.
Good experience in Vendor factory acceptance testing (FAT) for the above systems.
Ability to develop specifications for telecommunications system panels and associated bulk materials.

PREFERENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience of SHELL Design & Engineering Practices and/or BP standards.
