Engineering Manager for Infotech Enterprises Ltd in United Kingdom (UK)

Role:

To manage a team of Design Engineers, Technical Writers, Linesmen and Technicians for successfully, timely and safe delivery of Railway Traction projects including a) electrification of new lines, b) electrification of existing running lines, c) yard modifications, d) modifications in Overhead Catenary due to modifications of other Railway systems like track, signaling, civil works etc., e) installation, testing and commissioning of power supply installations in sub-stations or on way-side, f) modifications in power supply installations in sub-stations or on way-side, and g) any other job related to overhead traction taken up by Infotech Enterprises Ltd. Supervising and taking ownership of the design aspects of these projects and ensuring that the deliverables are to the full satisfaction of the client. Assisting in business growth in Railway Traction sector.

Key Responsibilities:

On Site
Overall leadership and co-ordination of Railway Traction projects on site from the end of Infotech Enterprises Ltd. As envisaged in the contract with the client.
Liaison with the client and, if required, the end-customer for planning of the day to day project activities.
Acquiring knowledge of mandatory and safe working practices in the country where site is located, training and counselling the gang members regarding them and making sure that they are followed religiously.
Assigning tasks to the gang members according to requirement and nature of the work and the members skills in order to ensure that the desired objectives are met.
Explaining the assigned work to the gang members especially the key points pertaining to timely completion of the job, quality of workmanship and safety of personnel.
Mentoring the gang members so they advance their skills and their confidence in order to enable their growth in the organization.
Monitoring the on-going work at the site making sure that the desired objectives are met and taking timely corrective action if the work is diverting from the objectives or is creating a potential safety incidence.
Keeping logs of the work done and maintain project documentation as assigned, making sure that the documentation required is up to date.
Taking preemptive action to make sure that safety is not breached either during preparation of work, during the work and during pos-work activities.
Making sure that the accidents and safety incidents and near misses are reported promptly and accurately to the concerned authorities and assisting in investigations.
Taking part in regular meetings on the site with the client, the end-customer and other stakeholders representing Infotech Enterprises Ltd.
Any other duties deemed necessary by Infotech Enterprises Ltd., to ensure smooth and efficient running of the project or the development of future projects and associates.
Off Shore
Managing a team of Design Engineers and Technical Writers assigned for any of the Railway Traction project taken up by Infotech Enterprises Ltd.
Assigning the off shore work to the team members as per requirement and as per the best of their capabilities in order to ensure that desired and stated objectives are met.
Mentoring and training the team members so they advance their skills and their confidence in order to enable their growth in the organization.
Preparing and maintaining activity logs for the work assigned and making sure that the deliverables are forwarded to the client in a timely manner and are of good quality.
Following the Quality Management System procedures as amended from time to time by Infotech Enterprise Ltd. are followed.
Taking part in regular meetings with the client and if required, other stake holders regarding the projects.
Making use of the skills and knowledge to enhance the business potential for Infotech Enterprise Ltd.
Any other duties deemed necessary by Infotech Enterprises Ltd., to ensure smooth and efficient running of the project or the development of future projects and associates.

Skills Required:

Essential
Fully skilled and conversant in the features, norms, standards and design parameters of 25 kV AC Overhead Catenary system; layout of Traction Sub-stations including various equipment meant for power supply of electric traction; earthing, bonding and protective schemes.
Should be fully conversant with
o Various drawings and documents used in the field of Railway Traction.
o Site access requirements and arrangements.
o Various types of yard layouts.
o Tools used on site for working on Overhead Catenary System such as pull lifts, tirfors etc.
o Machines used for working on Overhead Catenary System such as CMV, Wiring Train etc.
o Interface with other systems both Railway and non-Railway such as Track, Signaling, Power Lines etc.
o Safety requirements and standards.
Should be comfortable in making general use of computers. Should be well versed in general office application and should be comfortable in reading drawings on the computer.
Should be fully capable of
o Conducting site surveys before erection/modification of Overhead Catenary System.
o Assessment of material from the most basic drawings and site surveys.
o Taking measurements on site and conducting inspections.
o Conducting independent enquiries into failures and incidents.
Excellent supervisory and management skills and should be capable of assessing skills and aptitude in staff.
Should be geared towards safety and able to develop a strong safety-first culture.
Good command over written and spoken English and should have good communication skills.
Desirable
Conversance with DC traction systems, overhead and third rail.

Qualification:
B.Tech (Electrical/Electronics) with a minimum of 8 years experience as supervisor in the relevant field, or
Diploma in Engineering (Electrical/Electronics/related) with a minimum of 12 years experience as supervisor in the relevant field.
(Desirable) From a Railway background.
