HVAC Engineer for Ethiopia/ Nigeria

    1. JOB SUMMARY 

    The company carries a range of proprietary Heating, Cooling, Ventilation and Power systems. . The engineer is expected to work on ventilation and air conditioning systems in terms of design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, trouble shooting, and repairing these systems. These include gas-fired absorption chillers, instantaneous gas fired water heaters; hydronic fan-coil systems; chilled water pumps and hydraulic systems calculations/balancing etc.

    This role is pivotal to the companys new energy arm as it supports the business development arm in what is a new market sector in the country.

    The candidate must be proactive and demonstrate lateral thinking in order to provide solutions and or comfort to many potential clients who are new to hydronic systems. In this regard the candidate must be able to communicate technical ideas in easy to understand language and instill confidence in clients. A key part of this job, therefore, will be customer facing

    In addition, they will need to have leadership skills to manage the field workers/artisans at the core of the installation work.

    2. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

    Strategic & Operational
    Manages and supervises installations and work on site and field workers. Assists in the developments of new markets.
    Technical trouble shooting of installations to ensure customer satisfaction
    Supports business development efforts of the GM
    Design and plan HVAC systems
    Oversee the supply & distribution of equipment, spares and consumables.
    Manages orders and stock items for proprietary equipment as well as consumables (e.g. absorprion chillers; chilled water pumps; fancoils; chilled water pipes, valves and fittings; hot water heaters etc.)
    Plan regular training for staff on relevant areas such as HSE (specifically with relation to gas installations). Such training should be in the format of formal courses and tool box talks.
    Manage the performance, career development, welfare and motivation of team members.
    Manage project execution (on time; on budget)
    Administrative and hands-on tasks
    Liaises with the appropriate authorities to ensure approvals are secured (e.g. building services permits where required)

    Noticeable expansion of gas-fired equipment penetration in emerging market.
    Adequacy, usefulness and timeliness of information/reports produced
    Effectiveness of problem identification, analyses and solutions development efforts
    Response time to customer issues / equipment downtime
    % variance from budget in project / department
    % reduction in maintenance cost

    4. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
    Mechanical/Electrical/HVAC engineer degree
    Hydronic systems installation (experience on chilled water systems is a must)
    HVAC systems installation
    Absorption chiller experience
    Boiler and hot water systems experience
    HVAC systems commissioning & troubleshooting
    Heat and cold lagging /insulation experience
    Inspection and testing of control panels and electronic boards
    Basic knowledge of electrics and electronics

    5. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED
    Experience with hydronic / chilled water systems
    Experience of Combined, Cooling Heating and Power (CCHP) concepts
    Basic Accounting
    Lagging (Insulation)
    Interpersonal Skills
    Leadership/Supervisory
    Basic computing skills (Microsoft packages Word, Excel and Power Point)
    Project Management
    Reporting

    6. REMUNERATION
    Baseline salary up to US$15-25,000 per annum
    Shared accommodation, Pool Car, 3 x travel (return to home country) in premium economy annually.
    Single (bachelor) status
    Local living allowance of US$30-50 per day of presence in Nigeria
    Location is Lagos, Nigeria
