Offshore Mechanic
MAIN PURPOSE:
The Mechanical technicians main purpose is to carry out maintenance and corrective activities on an ad hoc basis, under the direction of the relevant Supervisor, Contract Support Engineer, Project Engineers and Client Representatives.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Carry out preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and periodic inspections on all pedestal, overhead and davit cranes, lifting equipment and accessories, riser handling systems and marine handling systems (annual and five-yearly maintenance) and such other equipment as may be agreed between Sparrows and client in accordance with maintenance service contracts, work procedures and Company guidance.
- Carry out offshore survey work scopes for future preventative maintenance or corrective maintenance planning and work preparation, including provision of detailed reports with supporting equipment / materials requirements for onshore support teams to plan accordingly.
- Responsible for completion of detailed daily reports, completing and submitting timesheets in accordance with Company procedures and incident forms as and when required
- Liaise with Clients offshore / onshore personnel to gain the necessary work permits and organise work programmes
- Establish and maintain effective communication with client personnel to ensure an efficient service is provided on an on-going basis
- Carry out effective and constructive tool box talks with the work scope team members. The incumbent is to ensure that objectives are explained in sufficient detail and in a manner and at a level and pace appropriate to all the relevant individuals they are working with
- Ensure that project objectives are updated regularly with Team Members to take into account individual, team and organisational changes
- Ensure that work methods and activities optimise the use of available material, capital and personnel
- Where legal requirements and organisational/development objectives conflict, the problem is identified and advice is sought from the appropriate personnel
- The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that any subordinates are helped to perform their jobs effectively and have the learning opportunities through which their abilities and potential can be developed.
Desired Candidate Profile
The employee will have as a minimum:
- Previous mechanical maintenance / repair / troubleshooting experience relative to position.
- Previous experience working within the Offshore Industry
- Previous knowledge and experience of mechanical systems and components
- Good communication skills.
The following is also desirable:
- Relevant trade discipline qualifications
- Knowledge of hydraulic maintenance / repair / troubleshooting techniques.
- Knowledge of Overseas work ethics in particular the Africa region.

Rigger - Level III
MAIN PURPOSE:
The Riggers main purpose is to lead and deliver rigging / slinging activities under the direction of the relevant client of Sparrows Supervisor, CSE or Project Engineer.
Roles and Responsibilities
GENERAL DUTIES:
- Co-operate fully and undertake other works as directed by Client representatives on duties unrelated to facility cranes, deemed to be within your competence.
- Perform Banksman/Slinger duties during load/discharge of materials from supply vessel.
- Assist with planned maintenance of all fixed and portable lifting equipment.
- Assist with routine crane wire rope changes and maintenance.
RIGGING:
- Carry out regular servicing routines and inspection checks on lifting equipment, (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly) and such other equipment as may be agreed between Sparrows and Client in accordance with maintenance service instructions.
- Carry out routine equipment lubrication duties in accordance with specified lubrication schedules.
- Maintain items of lifting equipment in a clean and tidy condition, as directed by the Services Supervisor.
- Assist crane maintenance personnel in crane maintenance and repair activities.
- Rigger will be wholly competent in all aspects of the lifting activities assigned. Understand the capabilities and limitations of equipment with regard to offshore operation, and of the various installed mechanisms, control and safety systems.
- Maintaining the database of Generic and Specific Lifting Plans and Risk Assessments for the facility.
- Maintain the register of Personal Authorised to perform lifting operations on the platform.
- Development of LOLER Lifting Plans and Risk Assessments for Routine and Simple lifts.
- Continuous Review of Lifting Assessments for Routine up to complex lifts.
- Mentor junior rigging personnel, to ensure they achieve their own development up to level 3 rigger.
