The aim for us is to build a Hadoop Platform that will provide rich data, faster, and help us answer some really great questions about how we run our business. The work you do will enable us to quickly and efficiently gather, collect and analyse huge data sets to answer complex business questions.
Our Hadoop Engineer will develop, support, maintain and implement code to deliver answers to complex Business Intelligence projects that will make a significant difference to how we interact with our customers in the future. This role will work with the business to understand requirements, and then develop our Hadoop platform using various programming languages, tools and frameworks.
AREAS OF SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY
1. Translate complex functional and technical requirements into detailed design
2. Develop, support, maintain and implement Hadoop focused business intelligence projects
3. Perform analysis on vast data stores to uncover business insights
4. Manage POC efforts to build new capabilities on Hadoop Clusters
5. Manage the release management in development codes on Hadoop Clusters
6. Create scalable and high performance web services for data tracking
On a day to day basis you can expect to be involved in activities like this:
1. Hadoop Development and Implementation
2. Programming and Software Development
3. Utilising various programming languages and related tools and frameworks to get the best out of our Hadoop platform
4. Reviewing code written by the data team, and providing constructive feedback and communicating best practice standards.
5. Documenting and implementing software systems
6. Using and loading for disparate data sets
7. Designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting Hadoop
8. Maintaining security and data privacy
9. Testing and fixing bugs
10. Developing high-speed querying
THE DESIRABLE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Essential Skills:
1. Significant experience operating in Hadoop services or equivalent, preferably in a large scale production environment
2. Good knowledge of the Hadoop Framework
3. The ability to respond to technical queries/requests from team members
