Location: Hong Kong


Duration: 6-12 months with a 3-month probation period


Salary: 1.5 Lakhs per month

We seek an organised, motivated individual with a passion for the arts to join our team as an Art Studio Administrator and Ceramics Instructor.


Role Overview:


This role combines administrative responsibilities with ceramics instruction. The Art Studio Administrator will manage daily studio operations, support artistic projects, and teach a range of ceramics classes. An artistic inclination and a high level of organisational skills are essential to efficiently run the studio, maintain equipment, and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for students and members.


Key Responsibilities:


Administrative and Studio Management

  • Oversee studio operations and ensure a clean, organised, and welcoming environment.
  • Manage booking and payment processes, with payment due 14 days prior to the scheduled start date or at booking if later.
  • Develop, manage, and update the studios student database and communication records.
  • Organise and place ads online for studio classes, workshops, and events.
  • Keep inventory of studio supplies and order new materials (e.g., clay, glazes, equipment) online or by phone as needed.
  • Maintain records of customer sales, class fees, firing fees, and expenses, and manage basic accounting tasks.
  • Keep the studio well-stocked with necessary forms, including clay inventory, firing logs, and orientation materials.

Instruction and Student Engagement

  • Teach ceramics classes to students ranging from beginners in One-time Wheel Classes to those with intermediate skills in ongoing classes.
  • Lead instruction in hand-building, children’s pottery classes, ceramic sculpture, glazing methods, altering techniques, and trimming techniques.
  • Inspire creativity, provide guidance on project ideas, and offer personalised support to each student.
  • Organise lessons and teach up to three 2-3 hour classes in a single day as scheduled.
  • Communicate completion notifications to students, and answer questions related to clay, glazes, firing, and studio protocols.
  • Develop and maintain a studio manual for FAQs and general guidance.

Studio and Equipment Maintenance

  • Oversee routine maintenance, including:
  • Clay Recycling: Prepare wet clay, clean barrels, and set up clay on plaster bats for reuse.
  • Glaze Area: Mix glazes, clean glaze area, and manage glaze waste.
  • Kiln Work: Vacuum kilns, load/unload electric kilns, and maintain kiln shelves.
  • Track fired items and manage studio shelving, including maintaining the “Rack of Doom” for storage rotation.
  • Ensure all workspaces, restrooms, and the kitchen are tidy and clean, including daily cleaning of countertops, sinks, floors, and bathroom areas.

Marketing and Social Media Management

  • Develop and manage content for Instagram, Facebook, and the studio’s website.
  • Advertise classes, workshops, products, and collections, ensuring strong brand representation online.
  • Catalogue completed artworks, document product collections, and support the studio’s online presence.

Product Line Management and Development

  • Define market needs for new products and coordinate their development to offer differentiated value.
  • Develop a pricing strategy based on competitive offerings and market trends, ensuring growth and profitability.
  • Plan for the product life cycle and analyse market opportunities to drive product line revenue and profitability.
  • Provide sales tools, technical documentation, and presentations, and engage in customer meetings to analyse market demand.
  • Cultivate partnerships with retail outlets, manage stock supplies, and oversee the packaging and shipping of artworks.

Requirements:

  • High level of organisational skills and the ability to efficiently run the studio’s daily operations and maintain equipment.
  • Previous experience in administration, preferably in an art or creative environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a friendly and patient approach when interacting with students, members, and staff.
  • Proficiency in English (Cantonese desired but not mandatory).
  • Proven teaching experience in ceramics, including hand-building, wheel classes, glazing, and trimming techniques.
  • Competence in basic accounting tasks and managing customer records.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, content management, and basic website upkeep.
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to fostering a welcoming, inclusive community for students and members from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Background in ceramics, arts, or design.
  • Experience with product development, sales strategy, or market analysis in a creative industry.
  • Ability to manage supplies and orders efficiently and anticipate studio needs.
