Job Overview:
The Storekeeper for Raw Materials is responsible for managing and overseeing the receipt, storage, and distribution of raw materials used in production. This role involves ensuring the accuracy and availability of materials, maintaining inventory levels, and ensuring adherence to safety standards. The storekeeper ensures that materials are stored in an organized and efficient manner while keeping track of stock levels and movement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inventory Management:
- Receive, inspect, and record incoming raw materials to ensure quality and quantity match specifications.
- Verify and document raw material deliveries against purchase orders or work orders.
- Manage stock levels and notify the relevant departments of low stock or materials required for upcoming production.
- Regularly monitor and update the inventory management system.
- Conduct periodic physical stock audits and ensure that materials are accounted for.
- Ensure FIFO (First In, First Out) method is followed for stock rotation.
- Material Storage & Organization:
- Organize and store raw materials in a safe and orderly manner within the warehouse or storage area.
- Ensure materials are stored according to industry best practices, including labeling and categorizing materials for easy access.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the storage areas to minimize the risk of accidents.
- Implement safety measures to prevent damage to materials and minimize hazards.
- Material Handling:
- Safely move raw materials using manual handling techniques or material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks).
- Assist in the loading and unloading of materials from trucks and containers.
- Ensure that the materials are placed in designated storage areas promptly.
- Inventory Control and Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of raw material stock levels, movements, and usage.
- Assist in preparing reports on inventory, consumption, and re-ordering.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for traceability and compliance.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Liaise with the purchasing and procurement departments regarding material requirements and stock levels.
- Communicate material shortages or discrepancies with the relevant departments.
- Work closely with the production department to ensure timely availability of raw materials for production schedules.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. A degree or certification in logistics, inventory management, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in warehouse, inventory, or storekeeping roles, ideally in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of inventory management systems (ERP or similar).
- Basic knowledge of raw material types and handling procedures.
- Forklift operation and material handling certifications may be required.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and other departments.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues, such as material discrepancies or shortages.
