Job Purpose:
The off-shore performance coach will drive the operational performance of GMS’s Offshore Support Vessels (OSSV’s) via the coaching, mentoring & On the Job Training (OJT) of all crew in seamanship; Health Safety & Environment & leadership. He/she will also be instrumental in the ongoing development, implementation & assessment of both Safety & Security Drills & Exercises.

Key Responsibilities:

The off-shore performance coach shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Seamanship
 Overseeing Safe Working Practices (SWP’s): coaching & mentoring of officers, supervisors & deck crew in the use of towing harnesses; operation of weight handling equipment; operation of pneumatic tools; operation of handheld power tools; operation of general OSSV deck equipment; operation of bench grinders & press drills etc.
 Adherence to recognised maritime/GMS procedures: coaching & mentoring of officers, supervisors & deck crew whilst weighing anchor; towing; bunkering; dropping anchor; lifting operations; leaving/entering port; approaching platforms; jacking operations etc.
 Overseeing safe Heli-Operations: coaching & mentoring of Heli Landing Officer/Heli Landing Assistant’s in the safe receipt & dispatch of aircraft in accordance with (IAW) GMS/maritime procedures; maintenance of heli-deck emergency equipment and emergency response etc.
 Adherence with the OSSV’s Emergency Bill: coaching & mentoring of officers, supervisors & deck crew during Emergency/Security Drills & Exercises.


HSE
 Ensuring compliance with company HSE directives via coaching & mentoring of all crew as necessary.
 With the HSE Manager, Audit and Review tasks and documentation relating to existing procedures and provide suggestions for implementation of changes or improvements through coaching sessions with the on board crew
 Assist the HSE Manager in the development of HSE Plans & Procedures.
 Communicate change offshore via coaching, mentoring and the delivery of Presentations.
 Recognising unsafe/poor working practices & intervening in an appropriate but effective manner to foster a comprehensive culture of adherence to effective Health, Safety & Environmental practise.
Training
 Reinforcing training received via the GMS (Virtual) Academy via OJT interventions as required.
 Identifying potential competency gaps and liaising with the Training & Competency Superintendent to analyse/close them.
 Act as the Verifier ensuring that Assessors are carrying out Competency Assessments against set criteria and IAW GMS procedures
Leadership/Supervision
 Facilitating the effective leadership & operational supervision of individuals; teams & tasks via the coaching & mentoring of OSSV Officers/Supervisors in leadership/supervisory skills.

Seamanship
 Demonstrable experience of the safe operation & supervision of weight handling equipment (davits/capstans/cranes etc) – Desirable.
 Demonstrable experience of Ship Security Officer duties: vessel security; access control; personnel search; equipment search; vessel search; crowd control; reaction to bomb threats; supervision of
gangway watches; supervision of roving watches etc - Desirable.
 Demonstrable experience of Ship Safety Officer duties: maintenance & operation of emergency equipment; Emergency Drills; Emergency Exercises etc – Desirable.
 Demonstrable experience of sea-based Heli-Ops – Desirable.
 Demonstrable experience of the operation & supervision of a Rigging Loft – Desirable.
 Demonstrable experience of operating on a Jack-up Barge – Desirable.


HSE
 Demonstrable experience in behavioural based safety programs - Desirable
 Demonstrable experience of fostering a commitment to excellent HSE practises – Essential.
 Demonstrable experience of supervising safe systems of work (PTW, COSHH, TRA, JSA ETC) – Essential.
 Demonstrable experience of operating within the off-shore Oil & Gas/petrochemical sector – Desirable.
 Demonstrable understanding of health and safety legislation - Essential


Training
 Demonstrable experience in delivering practical training; both ‘On the Job’ & at a trade school/trg establishment – Essential.
 Demonstrable experience in effective coaching & mentoring individuals resulting in increased performance – Essential.
Leadership/Supervision
 Minimum of 10 years demonstrable senior leadership/supervisory experience within the maritime/offshore industry – Essential.
 Sound, demonstrable understanding of the theory of leading individuals, teams & tasks – Desirable

Qualification/Certification:
Seamanship  Ocean-going Masters License (Civilian/military) – Desirable.  Marine engineering certification (Civilian/military) – Desirable  HLO certification or demonstrable experience (Civilian/military) – Desirable.  Lifting/rigging certification or demonstrable experience (Civilian/military) – Desirable.  Slinging & banksman certification or demonstrable experience (Civilian/military) – Desirable. HSE  HSE qualification (NEBOSH/IOSH or Military equivalent) or demonstrable industry experience – Essential. Training  Training certification (Civilian/military); Assessor/Verifier (NVQ (QCF); Level 4 IQA) – Essential.  Instructor certification - Desirable  Coaching/mentoring certification (Civilian/military) – Desirable. Leadership/Supervision  Leadership qualification (ILM/CGI/NVQ above or Military equivalent) or equivalent experience – Essential.
