Business:
    • Evaluate sugarcane varieties through field experimentation with the aim of developing high sugar yielding varieties.
    • Develop and implement strategies for creating a high performing organizational culture based on transparency, integrity, accountability, performance measurement and results to ensure that programmed activities are undertaken on sound management principles and practices.
    • Liase with both factory and transport departments to ensure delivery of adequate and quality cane for optimal utilization of crushing capacity.
    • Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams to enable them develop, implement and evaluate strategic management standards.
    • Initiate and participate in performance reviews and business process improvement programmed as well as undertake special investigations aimed at improving organizational effectiveness.

    Monitoring and Control:
    • Monitoring and evaluating meteorological data for planning and scheduling of sugarcane production operations.
    • Carry out checks on farms with regard to soil conditions, ploughing, harrowing and planting methods and suggest improvements to increase the yields.
    • Control resources in the section and ensure operations are within set budgets.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
    • Monitor quality of cane being delivered to the factory and ensure compliance with green cane harvesting regulations and make recommendations to management.
    • To make sure daily factory targets are met.
    • To monitor and maintain effective harvesting of cane according to the milling requirements

    People:
    • Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff in order to ensure that the candidates selected have required job competencies and are provided with orientation and induction programmed necessary for effective job performance.
    • Set annual goals for all the field officers and supervisors and conduct performance evaluation.
    • Ensure direct person to person contact with all staff at all times.
    • Conduct training needs assessment, design and implement training programmed aimed at equipping staff with appropriate job competencies in order to improve the delivery of high quality services.

    Requirements

    • The ideal candidate should have a degree in Agricultural Engineering or Sugarcane Technology or other relevant field and at least 10 years of relevant work experience.
    • Basic business management skills required
